Why do the Americans place well
00:12
in the Presidents Cup and not in the Ryder's Cup?
00:14
I think part of it goes back to the expectation game.
00:17
At the Ryder Cup, they know they're in for a dog fight.
00:20
They know they're probably the underdog.
00:22
At the Presidents Cup, they know
00:23
they're the prohibited favorite
00:25
pretty much every time they tee it up.
00:27
Look at the international roster;
00:28
they have guys like Adam Scott, Jason Day, Louis Oosthuizen.
00:32
These are the top 15 players in the world.
00:34
However, there's a pretty significant drop up
00:36
in the second tier.
00:37
The international side just simply isn't as strong
00:41
as the European side in the Ryder Cup.
00:44
I mean, it's really easy to look like you're great
00:48
when you're playing an inferior opponent.
00:50
If you know that going in, you're gonna be more confident.
00:53
You're not gonna have this, sort of, impending fear
00:56
on every shot.
00:58
I think there was a period in the early 2000s,
01:00
where the international team, you could make a case
01:03
they actually had a better team
01:05
with Adam Scott,
01:06
with Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh was still peaking.
01:09
Those were some really strong teams.
01:11
But since then, the international team it seems like
01:14
there's a little more turnover.
01:16
I think the Americans have dominated
01:17
in the Presidents Cup for many of the same reasons
01:19
the Europeans have recently dominated in the Ryder Cup.
01:22
And that's because the Americans have this
01:24
kind of cohesive sense of unity,
01:27
whereas the internationals, there's no sense
01:29
of belonging when you're part of a Presidents Cup team
01:33
on the international side.
