[Gil] The second hole of the Rio Olympic Course
00:12
is a par four that plays 486 yards
00:15
for the men and 438 yards for the women.
00:18
The players have an elevated tee shot here,
00:20
from what might be the highest point on the golf course
00:23
down to a sharp dogleg left
00:25
with deep bunkers cut into the left side of the fairway.
00:28
The longer hitters might be able to get past the bunkers
00:30
on their tee shot, and if they do,
00:32
they'll catch a down slope
00:34
that should give them an extra 30-40 yards of roll.
00:37
After that, they'll have an approach into a green
00:39
that is set right on the lake with some mounds
00:41
out to the right side of the green.
00:44
Here's a closer look at the fairway bunkers.
00:46
We used indigenous sand from the property
00:48
for all of these bunkers and the green,
00:51
which sits intimidatingly close to the water.
00:54
These mounds are tightly mown and if the players miss right,
00:57
they're going to have to pitch it over the mound
00:59
to a green that is running away from them toward the water.
