The Matthew Wolff Era is here
Alex Myers discusses the 20-year-old phenom’s first PGA Tour win and why he is an original member of the Wolffpack.

So a couple weeks ago, I hopped in my car
and drove about two hours to the Traveler's Championship
for one reason, I wanted to be able
to tell people one day that I had seen Matthew Wolff's
pro debut in person, incredibly,
that day has already arrived.
In just his third event as a pro,
Wolff won the 3M Open to become the second youngest
PGA Tour winner of the modern era, amazing.
Now, I wasn't in Minnesota to witness Wolff's
breakthrough win, but to quote Fargo,
you're darn tooting that I was there
from day one of the Matthew Wolff era.
Which, again began two weeks ago.
And, will I be bragging about that fact for some time?
A 20 year old winning on the PGA Tour
is quite the statement in itself,
but Wolff put an exclamation point
on the proceedings with his own July 4th weekend fireworks.
Minutes after Bryson DeChambeau
eagled the closing hole of TPC Twin Cities
to grab the lead, Wolff did the same thing,
rolling in a 25 footer from the fringe.
Poor Bryson, not only did he come off
one shot short, despite his 72nd hole heroics,
but his stunned, slash annoyed reaction
became an instant meme, from henceforth,
this look will be called Brysoning.
Back to Wolff, the California Kid is known
for his prodigious length and unorthodox swing.
One that David Feherty describes
as looking like he's being tasered
by a state trooper at the top of his back swing.
That's not to mention the little shimmy he does
before pulling the trigger on his shot.
But hearing him flush a golf ball
one time in person will have you running
to the nearest mirror, to try and copy his funky move.
I know from experience, A, because I'm desperate enough
to try anything to help my game,
and B, because I saw him hit his first shot
as a pro in person, did I mention that?
Wolff's swing may be unusual, but his celebration
seemed pretty standard, until you watch closely,
and realize he wasn't even watching
when his winning putt dropped, what a stud.
This guy's entertainment value is off the charts.
I recently ranked the PGA Tour's content kings,
and Wolff obviously didn't make the list
because of his newbie status,
looks like I should have waited a bit longer.
Anyway, I'm glad that I at least braved the elements
that gloomy Thursday, a couple weeks ago,
and trudged around TPC River Highlands
with this young phenom and his growing Wolff-pack.
And I'm glad I made that drive and parked in that mud pit.
Seeing this wolf in the wild was well worth it.
But seriously, my car's still disgusting.
Can I expense a car wash?
