Tiger, Rory and the return of skins golf
Alex Myers discusses the inaugural MGM Resorts The Challenge: Japan Skins, and how Jason Day won thanks to a little (clothing) help from Tiger Woods.

[Alex] So Skins Golf is back.
You just might've slept through it.
Thanks to our colleagues at Golf TV,
the fun format returned
with MGM Resorts The Challenge: Japan Skins.
And if you were in the U.S.,
you had to stay up really, really late to watch.
But it was worth it.
The foursome of Tiger Woods, Rory Mcllroy,
Jason Day, and Hideki Matsuyama
was certainly a big upgrade from the field
at the final Skins game in 2008,
which included K.J. Choi, Rocco Mediate,
and Stephen Ames.
And The Challenge also included some interesting challenges.
Ah, I see what we did there with the title of the event.
In one of these charity challenges,
the guys each teamed up with a rugby star
in Japan for the world cup
to play alternate shot on a hole.
When Matsuyama made a long birdie putt,
South African Bryan Habana jumped onto him in celebration.
Moments later, Irish rugby player Brian O'Driscoll,
drained his own birdie putt for the tie.
Until it appeared Matsuyama may have been injured.
Thank goodness no one jump on Tiger.
Those dudes are large.
Then, in the one club challenge,
players had to pick a single club
with which to play an entire par five.
Incredibly, all four nearly parred the hole
and Day had the day's best highlight.
Getting up and down from a green side bunker
with a six iron.
And again, only a six iron.
Even after that sandy sorcery,
Day didn't need his putter to roll in the six footer.
These guys are good.
The Aussie also used something else
that caught people's attention though.
Yep, Tiger's vest.
And no, this wasn't some kind of
one piece of clothing challenge.
Apparently, Day didn't check the forecast
or realize they were going to be finishing around sundown
Which translated to about four a.m. eastern time
when I was nice and cozy under my covers.
But Day's fellow Nike buddy
hooked him up with one of his TW Logo numbers.
It was a nice gesture.
But the old Tiger would have frozen out a competitor.
The old Tiger also probably would've lost.
Incredibly, Woods fell to 0-7 in his career
in made for TV Skins games.
So he can win 15 Majors,
but not a single hit and giggle Skins event?
Maybe you should try wearing a red shirt next time?
Anyway, let's do it again next year guys.
But, maybe on a closer continent.
Now excuse me while I go take a nap.
