The Grind: Ciara takes up golf & Paige Spiranac picks up her 1st pro win
Alex Myers discusses Ciara playing golf, Paige Spiranac's first pro win, and cheerleaders at the NCAA Championship.
Released on 6/7/2016
From One World Trade Center,
I'm Alex Myers and this is The Grind.
What's up guys, here's what I'm buying
and selling this week.
I'm buying William McGirt,
who won for just the second time as a pro.
Now the first time came back in 2007 on the Tarheel Tour,
when he took home a cool 16 G's.
This time, McGirt won the memorial
and earned nearly a hundred times as much,
plus he got some priceless personal time with Jack Nicklaus.
I'm selling CBS.
Look, I understand there's a financial reason
to show taped delayed coverage, but this was ridiculous.
With a weather delay and a play off,
the final ran of the memorial nearly ended
when it was supposed to, and yet CBS never switched
to going live.
Also, no live streaming?
What is this, 2010?
I'm buying Paige Spiranac, who won for the first time
as a pro on the Cactus Tour.
From graduating college to blossoming
into an Instagram star,
to winning your first pro event, we're so proud of you.
I need a tissue.
Keep it up.
And I'm selling the USGA and R&A study
that driving distances only increased minimally
over the past decade.
Were you watching the final round at Muirfield Village?
Exhibit A, Rory McIlroy on the 17th tee, 381 yards.
And exhibit B, Dustin Johnson on the same hole, 382 yards.
Yup, that's exactly how far tour pros
were hitting it 10 years ago.
Now onto more pressing matters,
this week in celebrities playing golf.
Check out Sierra giving the game a try.
[Man] All the way from Mexico, that's a good shot.
Straight and about 190.
Not too bad.
[Alex] Is it weird that I'm way more excited
about Russell Wilson making a cameo in that video?
Love that guy.
And as always, we end with some random but important
questions to ponder.
Number one, did Oregon have an unfair advantage
in its championship match against Texas?
No we're not talking about that whole
forfeited match, we're talking about cheerleaders.
When have you ever seen cheerleaders at a golf match?
Talk about home field advantage.
Number two, are any athletes going to the Olympics?
Stephan Curry became the latest big name to drop out.
Folks, this is bad.
It's not just golfers pulling out, it's celebrity golfers.
And number three, memorial milkshakes
or my mother-in-laws chipwiches?
There was a lot of talk from tour pros
about the milkshakes at Muirfield Village,
but I'm gonna have to go with the chipwiches.
Look at how they're rolled in chocolate chips.
Now that's attention to detail.
