So the PGA Tour took a rare break last week,
00:02
but we here at Golf Digest filled the void
00:04
by holding the coldest company golf outing ever.
00:08
At least it felt that way.
00:10
As is tradition, the powers that be
00:11
waited way too long to schedule the Annual Seitz Cup,
00:14
and this time we caught a particularly rough Friday
00:17
with a high of 35 and consistent 15-mile per hour plus winds
00:20
that made it feel closer to the teens.
00:23
Leonardo DiCaprio's character in the Revenant
00:25
didn't have it this tough.
00:26
But spoiler alert, as you can tell by me telling you
00:29
about this tale of bravery,
00:31
I survived the elements.
00:32
Although it took a couple days to get
00:34
full feeling in my fingers back.
00:36
As someone who basically puts the clubs away
00:38
once the temperature drops below 65,
00:40
I wore seven layers up top and never thought about
00:43
shedding one the entire five hours.
00:45
Seven layers, well, eight if you count
00:48
getting an early start at the bar to warm my belly.
00:52
Yes, all the clothing made my backswing shorter
00:55
than Bill Belichick's stint as head coach of the Jets.
00:57
But I was willing to sacrifice
00:59
some distance for avoiding hyperthermia.
01:02
I'm happy to report
01:03
all of my tough co-workers made it as well.
01:06
In an incredible display of grit
01:08
and really the human spirit,
01:09
there were no WD's from the 36-person field.
01:13
In fact we had a 37th person,
01:14
Golf Digest executive producer Christian loos,
01:17
who recently broke his leg,
01:19
show up just to document the event.
01:21
Talk about guts.
01:23
And what an event it turned out to be
01:25
at lovely Rockridge Country Club.
01:27
As I mentioned last week, I was upset over being bumped
01:29
to the old team and losing my spot
01:31
as the last of the millennials in this annual age clash
01:34
named after former Editor-in-Chief, Nick Seitz,
01:36
but it's nice to be on the winning side for once.
01:39
Ryan Harrington and I took care of business
01:41
in an epic 18-hole match.
01:43
And the old team won 16 to 11.
01:46
Here's Ryan's fantastic reaction
01:47
to draining the winning putt.
01:51
[Ryan] Woo.
01:52
What a putt.
01:53
[Man] That's unbelievable.
01:54
What a putt.
01:58
Absolutely electric.
02:00
Old guys, geezers, boomers, you can call this
02:03
scrappy, crafty bunch whatever you want
02:05
as long as you also call us winners.
02:07
We're basically like Team Europe at the Ryder Cup,
02:10
just minus the matching blue outfits
02:12
and Ian Poulter blood-curdling screams.
02:14
Anyway, what an amazing effort all around
02:17
and I've never been prouder to wear the GD logo,
02:21
then again, we are called Golf Digest for a reason,
02:25
we love golf and we're fortunate this wonderful game
02:27
brings us together on a daily basis.
02:30
On this particular day, though, we became closer than ever.
02:33
No matter our ages.
02:36
All right, all right, enough of the sappy stuff.
02:38
The main take-away was that it was freaking freezing
02:41
and I'll tell you one thing, I've never been so excited
02:44
for that post round chili.
