So Shane Lowry won the 2019 Open Championship,
and it kicked off one
of the most epic victory celebrations ever.
Of course, it helps when you can start planning the party
midway through your final round.
That's how easy Lowry made it look at Royal Portrush
on Sunday as he cruised to a six-shot win.
And the champion golfer of the year
is now the popular man in all of Ireland
after claiming the Claret Jug just a few hours
from where he grew up on the Emerald Isle.
Unfortunately, I picked the wrong open to bet on Shane,
having laid some money on him at Pebble Beach.
Why didn't I double down on him this week
when he was essentially playing a home game?
Well, because he hadn't even made the cut
in the past four opens.
In fact, Lowry admitted he cried in his car
after missing the cut at Carnoustie last year.
And I can relate with the current state of my game.
But they were only tears of joy
on Sunday following his giant romp near Giant's Causeway.
So who is this bearded bloke?
Well, he's 32, he's a five-time European Tour winner,
and a winner of a world golf championship at Firestone.
He also got married in New York City
and posted this romantic wedding photo
from a subway entrance.
Lowry tied the knot in 2016 just days
after making a hole in one at the Masters.
For most people, making an ace at Augusta National
and getting married to the love of your life
would be the greatest week of their lives.
But now Lowry has managed to top it
by picking up his maiden major
in front of so many familiar faces.
Following the final round, the Guinness flowed
like water from the Claret Jug.
Wait, isn't that being just a bit presumptuous?
Just because he's Irish
doesn't necessarily mean he likes Guinness
or that he even enjoys having a pint or two.
Never mind, the guy loves Guinness,
and he definitely enjoys having a pint or two.
When asked if it was going to be a big party
on Sunday night, Lowry laughed and replied,
It's going to be all week, all week.
The festivities certainly got off to a great start.
The guy didn't even bother to change
out of his golf clothes before hitting the pub.
And after a fun first night,
Lowry shared this cheeky photo of his new bed mate.
Good for you, Shane.
Now rise and shine, big guy.
You and Ireland have a lot more celebrating to do.
