Protect Your Elbows

One of the best tools to avoid getting tendinitis is actually something that was created for rehabilitation of the joint. Golf Digest's Ron Kaspriske demonstrates how to use the TheraBand Flexbar for strengthening the elbow.

So I'm holding a TheraBand FlexBar,

and I have tendonitis in both my elbows.

I mean, it kills me every golf season.

But I do use this for therapy,

and let me tell ya, it makes the pain go away.

So let me demo it for ya.

First thing to remember is,

if you have golfer's elbow, the inside of the elbow,

the way you use this bar is different than if you had

tennis elbow, which is the outside.

So on my trail arm, my right arm, I have golfer's elbow.

I really feel pain here from time to time.

So I take the Therabar,

pull it out in front of me,

grab my other hand,

pull it up, so it's twisted, extend it,

and then I release with my right hand.

I'll show it to you one more time.

Cup it like this,

grab it over the top and twist,

put it out in front you,

and then release slowly.

That's how you would treat golfer's elbow, inside, remember.

So what you'd probably want to do is

between 10 and 12 reps, couple of sets, few times a week.

Sooner or later, you're gonna strengthen that area.

It's gonna relieve the tension in those tendons.

It's gonna feel a whole lot better.

So what do you do for tennis elbow?

Well, I have that on the outside (chuckles) of my lead arm.

So I hold this upright,

I come around the top with my right arm, twist,

then I extend it,

and then I release with my left hand.
