So, we're less than one week into the NBA season
00:02
and we already had our first full blown controversy.
00:05
Man, I love the NBA.
00:07
Of course, I'm talking about Spitgate.
00:09
Yup, Spitgate.
00:11
The madness began late in the fourth quarter of a tight game
00:14
between the Lakers and the Rockets
00:15
when Brandon Ingram shoved James Harden.
00:18
But while the focus was on those two,
00:20
things got messy between Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo,
00:23
two of the leagues most notorious instigators.
00:26
These middle weights actually duked it out,
00:28
each getting a couple of pretty good shots in
00:31
while Floyd Mayweather Jr. watched in delight.
00:34
The ruckus ended after Ingram came in over the top
00:36
with a Shaq on Brad Miller-esque haymaker,
00:39
and CP3 is lucky he didn't connect cleanly.
00:41
And Lebron James would up pulling Paul,
00:43
who happens to be his oldest son's godfather,
00:45
away from the fray.
00:47
Oh, yeah, did I mention this was the second game
00:49
of the season for both teams?
00:51
Following the incident,
00:52
Paul accused Rondo of spitting on him,
00:54
but when Rondo and the Lakers denied the allegation,
00:57
a few conspiracy theories were floated.
00:59
Did Chris Paul make the whole thing up?
01:01
Was there a second spitter on the grassy knoll?
01:03
Or was it just friendly fire from Carmelo Anthony?
01:06
Of course,
01:07
that would mean Melo actually connected on something,
01:09
so not likely.
01:10
Also adding to the mystery was Rondo's claim
01:12
that wearing a mouth guard
01:14
prevented him from hawking a loogie.
01:15
Hm, but just when I thought we might need
01:18
that legendary lawyer from Making A Murderer part two
01:20
to run some tests,
01:22
a different angle appeared that proved Paul right.
01:24
Rondo has a quick mouth to go with some super quick hands,
01:28
and the NBA had its smoking gun, or expectorated gun.
01:32
The league swiftly handed down
01:34
four and three-game suspensions for Ingram and Rondo,
01:36
respectively, while only suspending CP3 for two games.
01:40
Admittedly, I'm the biggest Chris Paul apologist
01:42
in the world, but come on,
01:43
Rondo spit on him
01:45
and Paul still didn't throw the first punch.
01:48
Forget about suspension,
01:49
that kind of restraint
01:50
deserves Nobel Peace Prize consideration.
01:52
There were also reports that Paul's wife
01:55
and Rondo's girlfriend got into their own dust up
01:58
in the stands.
01:59
What a wild scene at The Staples Center.
02:01
And again, this was only game number two.
02:05
Everyone please pace yourselves, and while you're at it,
02:08
keep your saliva to yourself as well.
