Are you constantly searching for that thing,
00:05
to help take your game to the next level?
00:09
You're not alone, so is literally every golfer.
00:12
But in most cases, that thing,
00:14
that magic that will help elevate your results,
00:16
is actually right underneath your nose.
00:18
You need to stop, to take the time,
00:20
take a closer look at your game.
00:24
Cutting strokes from your score
00:25
is all about analyzing your game and re-evaluating
00:28
the scenarios that are keeping you from playing your best.
00:30
As a coach, I use a launch monitor in my lessons,
00:33
because it tells me exactly what happens
00:34
when my students hit the ball.
00:36
But there are also other easy ways to examine
00:38
what you're doing, and make smart, simple decisions
00:41
to eliminate the inefficiencies in your swing.
00:44
So obviously long and straight off the tee,
00:46
puts anyone into an advantageous position.
00:48
However, for the average amateur
00:50
mostly they're gonna be short and crooked.
00:51
They almost always look at their swing as the reason,
00:54
however if they were to take a step back and re-evaluate,
00:56
they'd realize that it's not their swing,
00:58
but rather, their setup.
01:00
Through the use of launch monitors it's been proven
01:02
that the best drivers in the world come from the inside
01:05
and hit up on the golf ball.
01:06
This produces a high-launching, low-spinning drive
01:09
for maximum distance.
01:10
Here are a couple of key setup ideas to help you hit
01:13
up on the golf ball, and get the longest drive of your life.
01:17
Starting off, we wanna play the ball
01:18
off the inside of our lead foot.
01:21
We wanna make sure that our upper body
01:23
is tilted behind our lower body.
01:25
This is only gonna further enhance
01:26
your ability to hit up on the golf ball.
01:27
And the third, shoulder alignment.
01:29
Even though our upper body is tilted behind the ball,
01:31
we still need to make sure that our shoulders
01:33
are square to our target.
01:35
It should look a little something like this.

01:47
So we've got the driver down, now let's take a look
01:49
at how we can take advantage of these terrific tee shots.
01:51
Most amateurs struggle to hit greens and regulations
01:54
simply because they do not make solid contact.
01:56
The key here is to make sure that we hit the ball first,
01:58
and the ground after.
01:59
So if you take a step back and look again,
02:01
your divot hole will tell you a lot
02:02
about what you're doing wrong.
02:04
Most amateurs, is they start their downswing
02:06
then leave too much weight on their back foot,
02:07
trying to scoop the ball up in the air.
02:09
This tends to cause you to hit the ground first,
02:11
and the ball after, or in an effort to not hit the ground,
02:13
they'll pull away and send the ball
02:15
scurrying around the ground.
02:17
So there's really three key points to ensure
02:19
that we hit the ball first, and the ground second.
02:22
Let's start with ball position.
02:23
In order to hit the ball solid with your irons,
02:25
we need to make sure that we play
02:26
at the center of our stance.
02:27
The more forward the ball is in our stance,
02:29
the harder it's gonna be to take the divot
02:30
in front of the golf ball.
02:32
Second, we wanna make sure when we're striking the ball
02:34
that our lead leg and our weight
02:35
is more forward at impact, then it was at address.
02:38
And finally, we wanna make sure that our lead arm,
02:40
at impact, is more forward then it was at setup.
02:43
So here's a terrific drill to ensure
02:45
that you hit the ball first, and the ground after.
02:48
Place two tees in the ground, forming an imaginary line
02:51
that's perpendicular to your target.
02:53
Then, place a ball right in between the tees.
02:55
Go and setup to the ball and hit shots.
02:58
What we wanna do after we hit the shot,
02:59
is study closely, where our divot starts and where it ends,
03:02
ensuring that our divot starts at the line, and goes after,
03:06
versus starting before the line.
03:08
(upbeat music)
03:11
And there you are, I'm on the green.
03:13
That much closer to making birdie,
03:14
and you can be too if you just take the time
03:16
to look again at what you're doing.
