One of the attributes of playing links golf
00:04
is playing along firm, fast conditions.
00:07
One of the reason why we choose bump and run shots
00:09
out on the golf course is we can help control the golf ball
00:13
and dictate where it goes.
00:14
So as we, once we've decided to play a bump and run,
00:17
one of the things we need to do is get the proper setup,
00:20
and I like to talk about making a stance
00:23
similar to a putting stroke.
00:24
The ball should be either in the middle of our stance
00:26
or slightly back because we're gonna be creating
00:28
a descending blow into the golf ball.
00:30
The other thing is we're gonna have to let that shaft
00:33
that was vertical come down
00:34
a little bit more like a regular golf shot.
00:37
The stroke is gonna be pretty much a straight back
00:40
and straight through.
00:41
The one difference is we're gonna make sure
00:42
that our hands are always leading throughout the golf shot.
00:45
Our hands should be ahead of the ball at impact,
00:47
and it's gonna cause the ball to come up in the air
00:50
but still run low along the ground.
00:51
As the shot gets longer, there's gonna be a couple things
00:54
that we need to do differently
00:56
as we move away from the green.
00:58
One, the straight back isn't gonna work.
00:59
We're gonna have to start to arc that club
01:01
and make a little bit of a turn.
01:02
One of the things we can do
01:03
to help the success of the shot
01:05
is to try and find a specific spot
01:07
where we're gonna land the golf ball.
01:09
Often, when people first arrive at Bandon Dunes,
01:11
they're not very comfortable with the bump and run.
01:13
Once they leave, it's usually their go-to shot.
