So, the 2017 President's Cup was such a rout
00:03
that I spent most of the weekend
00:04
trying to come up with the perfect nickname for the event.
00:07
It certainly wasn't a War by the Shore
00:09
like the 1991 Ryder Cup.
00:11
It was more like The Romp by the Swamp,
00:14
or maybe The Thump on the Dump.
00:16
Or if you're an NBC executive,
00:19
The Pity in Jersey City.
00:21
I'm not even sure the internationals woulda won this year
00:23
if the American's replaced their top four players
00:26
with the four US presidents who were in attendance.
00:29
Now, that would bet good TV ratings.
00:31
But this laugher at Liberty National
00:33
will be remembered for the laughs
00:35
it provided after the competition
00:37
at Team USA's epic winning press conference.
00:41
Not surprisingly, the guys were in good spirits,
00:43
and just a little lubed up on good spirits
00:46
when they got to the media center.
00:48
As everybody got settled, Matt Kuchar
00:50
took the reigns and conducted a pre-press conference
00:52
press conference that resulted in Jordan Spieth
00:55
getting ripped on by his teammates for his inexplicable
00:59
career 0-5 singles record in cup competitions.
01:02
As Dustin Johnson explained,
01:03
Golden Child here needs a little
01:05
jab every once in a while.
01:07
Nice.
01:08
Then Kuchar took a little jab at Phil Mickelson
01:11
by pointing out that Phil was the only
01:13
member of the team who didn't qualify
01:15
for this year's tour championship
01:17
by saying it over, and over again
01:20
with Phil sitting right next to him.
01:22
Of course, Phil was also the only member
01:24
of the 12 man squad with five major titles to his name.
01:28
But everyone dug Kuchar's dig.
01:30
And when you factor in his press conference performance
01:32
and his noted ping pong prowess,
01:35
it might be wise to give Kuchar
01:36
a lifetime invite to these events.
01:39
But the lasting images and sounds
01:41
of this rollicking affair came when players
01:43
were asked for their favorite fan song of the week.
01:46
And Jordan Spieth didn't hesitate
01:48
to break into a rendition of...
01:50
♫ Si Woo shakin' that ass
01:52
♫ Shakin' that ass (laughing)
01:53
♫ Shaking that ass
01:55
And it got even better when Dustin Johnson
01:57
sang the same tune and declared it
01:59
the best song ever, ever.
02:01
DJ also stood up on a chair and actually shook his ass.
02:06
So, I think we learned two important lessons here.
02:09
Si Woo shakin' that ass is pretty damn catchy.
02:12
And being on a winning team is really fun.
02:15
(hip hop music)
