Here's Ian Poulter, he's known as one
00:01
of the best pressure players in the game of golf
00:04
with all his great Ryder Cup performances.
00:06
One of the reasons is he has a very repeatable golf swing.
00:09
He tries to do the same thing over and over and over again.
00:13
Basically plays a straight ball or a little bit of a cut
00:16
and he just does the same shot every single time.
00:22
As you get to the top of his swing,
00:24
you're going to notice his club is pointed to the left.
00:26
You aim two times in your golf swing.
00:28
Once at the beginning
00:30
and again, at the top of your swing.
00:33
Notice here that Ian's club is pointed
00:35
to the left at the top.
00:37
The great thing about that position
00:39
is it will always allow you to get the golf club
00:42
down in front of you much, much easier.
00:45
When he comes down into the golf ball,
00:47
he is in an absolutely great position right here.
00:51
If you notice where the club is,
00:53
it is right on his hands.
00:55
That is what is called,
00:56
getting the golf club down in front of you.
00:59
If he had the golf club stuck behind him,
01:02
it would be over here somewhere.
01:04
That would mean the club would be coming too much
01:06
from inside to play a straight ball
01:09
or a little bit of a fade.
01:11
But this is a great position,
01:13
and it's easier to achieve that position
01:15
when you have the golf club pointed left
01:17
at the top of the swing.
01:19
So the takeaway though for amateur golfers is,
01:21
at the top of a swing,
01:23
his club is pointed to the left.
01:25
That's where you'd want to be
01:26
if you're trying to fade the ball.
01:29
If you were trying to draw the golf ball,
01:31
what you would want to do is
01:33
you would want the golf club pointed more over here.
01:38
The golf club pointed more to the right
01:40
at the top of the swing would allow you
01:42
to come more from the inside.
01:44
So there's two different points of aim.
01:46
Remember, you aim at the beginning,
01:48
you aim again at the top.
01:50
Where you aim the golf club at the top of the swing
01:52
will have a lot to do with how you bring the golf club down
01:55
and what kind of shot shape you're trying to hit.
