Most of the clubs in your golf bag are known as the irons.
00:10
The numbers stamped on them indicate the length of the club
00:12
as well as the amount of curvature on the face.
00:14
It's the design on the face
00:15
that makes the ball go higher or lower
00:17
and the length of the club
00:18
that makes it go farther or shorter.
00:20
You can use these clubs from anywhere.
00:22
Just remember, that the lower the number
00:24
the farther and the lower the ball will go
00:26
if you hit the shot in the middle of the club face.
00:28
We call that the sweet spot.
00:31
The shortest irons, the ones
00:32
with the most curved club heads,
00:33
usually don't have a number stamped on them.
00:36
They're called the wedges and are designed
00:37
to hit the ball high and make it stop quickly
00:40
when it lands on the green.
00:41
The shortest is usually stamped with an L.
00:44
That stands for lob wedge
00:46
and it has the most curvature and hits the ball the highest.
00:49
You literally lob the ball with this club.
00:51
Just keep that in mind.
00:52
The ball doesn't go very far with the wedges
00:54
but if you're new to the game,
00:55
I wouldn't be surprised if these become your favorite clubs.
00:58
They are easy to hit and great
00:59
for learning how to swing other clubs.
01:01
They're also the easiest to hit
01:02
if you're in the sand or the rough.
