Okay, so now it's time to hit a ball.
00:09
How you do it?
00:10
Well, let me ask you a question.
00:13
How do you hit a baseball or a softball with a bat
00:15
or tennis ball with a racket?
00:17
Those balls are moving, sometimes pretty fast
00:19
and yet you somehow still make contact.
00:21
Well, a golf ball's just sitting there.
00:24
It doesn't move unless you move it.
00:25
So remember that it isn't that hard
00:27
to make solid contact.
00:29
Where most beginners struggle
00:30
is they aren't trying to hit the ball.
00:31
They're trying to get it airborne.
00:33
They can torque their bodies and the arms
00:36
when they swing in effort to help the ball get to the sky.
00:38
It's a bad move.
00:39
The clubs are designed to get the ball in the air.
00:41
All you have to do is make contact with the ball
00:43
somewhere on the face of the club
00:45
and it'll probably fly
00:46
because of the way the club's designed.
00:48
So if you're just starting out, focus on making contact
00:52
and let the club do the rest of the work.
00:54
Think of the golf swing a lot like the movement of the arm
00:56
of an old grandfather clock.
00:58
The club moves back and through on a consistent path.
01:01
If you swing the club
01:01
with a consistent back and through motion,
01:03
you'll have success hitting good shots.
01:05
By the way, this tip works great with the putter too.
01:08
Just swing your arms back and forth like a pendulum,
01:10
tick tock, pull the putt.
01:13
Another tip: relax.
01:16
Relax your hands and your arms
01:18
and make a nice easy swing.
01:19
If you squeeze the club too hard or swing too fast,
01:22
you'll make it a lot more difficult
01:23
to make solid contact.
01:24
Start by making a slow relaxed swing.
01:28
Don't be jerky,
01:29
take your time swinging the club back away from the ball
01:31
and take your time swinging the club down into the ball.
01:34
Last piece of advice:
01:35
Continue your swing after the ball's been struck.
01:38
Why does that matter?
01:39
The continuation of the swing
01:40
makes the ball go farther, higher and straighter.
01:44
If you think in tennis,
01:45
the racket keeps moving after the ball has been hit.
01:48
It's the same with baseball with the hitter.
01:51
It should look something like this.
01:57
Easy peasy.
