With the way golf courses are designed today
00:05
with their great length and how beautifully
00:07
they're maintained, and especially with the equipment
00:10
that golfers played with today, such forgiving clubs,
00:13
certain shots in golf are really obsolete.
00:16
One example, I think, is hitting a three wood off a tee.
00:19
The only time I would hit a three wood off tee
00:21
is if I was laying up to take trouble out of play.
00:23
Other than that, the distance you gain really outrides
00:26
the inaccuracy that you might have.
00:29
Another example, laying up on a par five.
00:31
Get the ball as close to the green as you can.
00:34
The statistics say you'll get the ball closer
00:36
to the hole that way.
00:38
And my favorite example is putting from off the green.
00:41
Most players when they get around the green,
00:43
they're thinking about chipping the ball.
00:45
You wanna go with the theory that the more you can keep
00:48
the ball on the ground, the better off you are.
00:51
And your worst putt is gonna be better than
00:53
your worst chip.
00:54
One simple thing you have to do
00:56
to account for when you are putting from off the green.
00:59
If I've got 10 foot of fringe and then 20 foot of green
01:04
to get to the pin, what I need to do is add some
01:07
extra length, in my mind, to that putt.
01:10
So instead of being 30 feet, I'm gonna play it
01:12
like its 40 or 50 feet, depending on the length of the
01:16
fringe, and obviously the speed of the green,
01:18
but all you wanna do is, in your mind, just add
01:20
a little extra length to the putt,
01:23
and then putt from off the green.
01:27
Remember, your worst putt is always gonna be better
01:30
than your worst chip.
