Gym Fix: Get Your Swing Back In Sync

Synchronization might be the No. 1 determinant in whether you hit a good golf shot. In terms of timing, most swings go awry in the transition from backswing to downswing. Here are two exercises you can do in the gym to train your body to move the way the pros do.

Have you ever had one of those days on the golf course
00:02
where you feel like you're doing the exact same thing
00:04
as you always do when you swing the club
00:06
but the ball isn't going where you want it to.
00:08
Well I'm guessing synchronization
00:10
might be the culprit on those days.
00:12
I'd like to show you a couple of exercises that are
00:14
gonna help you with the change of direction,
00:17
the transition, in your golf swing.
00:19
When a golf pro takes the club back to here
00:22
their lower body is already starting
00:25
to go in the opposite direction.
00:26
That's that snap move that they make
00:28
that really generates power.
00:30
Well, you can train that if you train your hips correctly.
00:33
So, let me show you two exercises
00:34
that are essential for that.
00:36
The first is, you may have noticed,
00:39
I have a mini-band across my ankles.
00:43
So what I'm gonna do is just simply walk laterally.
00:46
Take a step and then a half step with the trail foot,
00:50
another step and then a half step
00:53
and then of course you always want to go in both directions.
00:55
So the key is not to go all the way back with the trail foot
00:59
Just bring it back about half way
01:01
and then take another step.
01:02
That's really gonna start to strengthen the hip muscles.
01:05
Second exercise is to take a med ball,
01:08
or a dumbbell if you don't have a med ball,
01:10
and now we're gonna really start to train the muscles
01:12
to understand that the lower body is going to be moving
01:14
in one direction while the upper body is still
01:16
going in the other direction.
01:18
So, this exercise looks like this
01:20
hold the med ball out in front of you
01:21
pretend like you're making a back swing
01:24
but step toward your target with your foot.
01:27
So it looks again like this.
01:33
Now of course with all these exercises
01:35
you always wanna go in both directions
01:36
but the thing to remember is that
01:38
at the top of your golf swing your lower body
01:40
really needs to initiate the down swing before
01:44
the upper body starts to unwind.
01:46
Try these exercises at home.
01:47
I think they're gonna help you
01:48
and you'll sink up your swing.
