[Narrator] American golfers no longer have to travel
00:05
to Scotland or Ireland to play authentic links-style golf,
00:09
surrounded by naturally-shaped dunes
00:11
as far as the eye can see.
00:13
They simply have to make their way to Central Florida.
00:16
Streamsong Resort has been dropped
00:17
into a truly unique landscape.
00:20
It's basically a massive sandbox that was once the site
00:23
for phosphate mining.
00:24
The byproduct of phosphate mining is pure purified sand,
00:28
and the Streamsong property has piles
00:30
that reach 75 feet into the air.
00:33
The resort's triple-header of world-class courses
00:35
were designed by three separate,
00:37
high-profile design firms.
00:39
Tom Doak created the blue course,
00:41
and Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw did the red course,
00:44
both of which opened in 2012.
00:47
In 2017, we'll see the premiere of the new black course,
00:51
designed by Olympic course architect, Gil Hanse.
00:55
The first two courses feature holes that weave
00:57
through mammoth dunes and surprising valleys.
01:00
Players have to maneuver around lagoons and sandpits,
01:03
and at some points, along savannas and swamps.
01:07
The new Streamsong Black is located a bit south
01:10
of the original 36 on gentler land,
01:12
and has its own clubhouse.
01:15
So how do the courses measure up against each other?
01:18
The blue course has the boldest green contours
01:21
and more gambling water carries off the tee.
01:24
The red has subtle knobs and hollows around the greens,
01:28
and all its water hazards are confined to par-threes.
01:31
The black has the deepest traps and the least water,
01:35
but its 18th green is protected by a pond.
01:38
All three have Bermuda turf, tightly-mown everywhere,
01:41
to produce the best bounce-and-roll golf in Florida.
01:45
Which course is the best?
01:47
That's up to you to decide.
01:49
We suggest playing them all.
