[Voiceover] For golfers,
00:04
the greatest meeting of land and sea in North America
00:07
might no longer be the Monterey Peninsula,
00:10
it might just be tiny Inverness, Nova Scotia.
00:14
Along the Canadian shoreline of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence,
00:17
around the horn from the Atlantic Ocean,
00:19
this area is home to two dramatic new golf courses
00:22
that offer all the challenge and scenery
00:24
of Pebble Beach and Cypress Point
00:26
and then some.
00:28
The slightly older of the two courses is called Cabot Links,
00:32
and it was designed and built
00:34
by Canadian golf architect, Rod Whitman.
00:37
It's starts and ends on genuine sand dunes
00:40
that were artificially reshaped to promote some really fun
00:43
bump and run playing.
00:44
Players will also encounter marshland
00:46
and a tidal basin,
00:48
called MacIssacs Pond,
00:49
plus six thrilling holes along the oceans edge
00:52
that will make them taste the salt spray.
00:55
A mile north, and on higher bluffs,
00:57
is the second course: Cabot Cliffs.
01:00
This 18-hole design is a phenomenal accomplishment
01:04
by the American team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw,
01:07
and it features a collection of holes
01:09
unlike any this famous duo have created before.
01:12
One hole tumbles from sand dunes into a river valley,
01:16
Another plays from dense pines to a green
01:18
backdropped by the shimmering Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
01:21
And the final three holes here
01:23
are as pulse-pounding as any in golf.
01:26
The par-3 16th hole plays over a deep ocean cove.
01:30
The par-4 17th has a daunting blind tee shot
01:34
to a cliff-top fairway.
01:36
And the par-5 18th heads south along the coast
01:40
with ocean ravines gnawing into the fairway
01:42
at critical points.
01:44
These are young resort courses,
01:45
but already world class.
01:47
Cabbot Links is ranked 93rd on Golf Digest's list
01:51
of the world's 100 greatest golf courses,
01:54
and Cabot Cliffs is ranked 19th.
01:57
That tells you something.
