Ben Shear here for Fitness Fridays
00:04
and today we are talking posture.
00:07
Posture's a huge part of the golf swing.
00:08
It's critical to maintaining our spine angles
00:10
as well as giving a good turn.
00:12
The most common flaw we see is what we call C-posture
00:15
or a rounding of the upper back within the golf swing.
00:18
Many people in their fitness programs are working,
00:20
or working within their swing,
00:22
working on getting more of a turn.
00:23
This posture is created because we sit behind a desk all day
00:25
at our computer, texting, driving in our car,
00:28
all those kinds of things.
00:30
What we're going to work on is
00:31
getting elongation of the spine before we we work on
00:33
getting rotation of the spine.
00:35
We're going to do a little exercise
00:37
created by a French osteopath, Guy Voyer.
00:40
I have Brian who works with me here can demonstrate.
00:43
He's sitting in a crisscross applesauce position.
00:46
He's going to bring his arms overhead palms together.
00:49
He's going to feel like he's pushing this up as high
00:51
as he can, keeping his elbows back, trying to breath and
00:55
not arching his back.
00:58
Simultaneously he's driving his knees down
01:00
into my hand this way.
01:02
You don't need somebody here but that's the feeling.
01:04
We're working on getting some length through the spine.
01:07
If you're trying to get a better turn and fix your posture
01:10
in your golf swing try to get some length before
01:13
you get rotation.
