So when I think of players irons,
00:01
I think of those very intimidating-looking muscle back irons
00:05
that we see some guys on tour use.
00:08
Is that what we are talking about here?
00:10
Not even close.
00:11
(upbeat music)
00:15
The old players iron was, as you said, it was a strict
00:18
muscle back blade, butter knife, no technology in it,
00:22
basically a hunk of metal on a stick.
00:24
Yeah.
00:25
What we're talking about now are really sophisticated
00:27
pieces of technology, but kind of in a compact shape
00:31
that a better player can stomach when he looks down at it.
00:34
And so, for an R and B guy,
00:35
is it easy to design a players iron?
00:37
Or difficult?
00:38
Talking to them, it's a little bit difficult actually,
00:41
if you think about it logically the bigger you canvas,
00:43
the more room you have to run.
00:45
What they're trying to do here
00:47
is package everything in a relatively small amount of space,
00:51
but they are able to do that by using things,
00:54
such as multiple materials,
00:55
they'll use weight to get the moment of inertia,
00:57
which helps stability or center of gravity location,
01:01
which is very important for these players.
01:03
Right.
01:04
They want each of their clubs to behave a certain way.
01:06
When they look up in the air
01:07
they want to see that ball flight in a certain spot.
01:10
They are very particular.
01:11
This allows them to get that exact in with it.
01:14
And speaking of what these player want,
01:16
they clearly want to look at something beautiful.
01:18
How important is the look when an R and B guy
01:21
is designing a players iron?
01:22
Well, it's certainly front of mind for them,
01:25
but the bigger thing is what a player wants
01:27
in this category is, they're not looking for a ton of help,
01:31
they're not looking to mask a flaw.
01:33
What they are looking to do is enhance their skill.
01:36
They already know how to play golf, they have some ability,
01:38
they're looking for things that
01:40
are gonna allow them to enhance that.
01:42
Great, so players irons, they're small,
01:44
but they pack a punch.
01:45
Absolutely.
01:46
Great.
01:47
