Released on 8/14/2015
What up guys, my name is Matty Du Plessis.
Just outside the Omega tent,
and we're gonna go do a nice little interview
with Mr. Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia.
So let's do this.
Hangin' out here with Mr. Rory McIlroy
and Mr. Sergio Garcia.
So obviously we're in the Omega tent,
and I see you're wearing the Omega watch.
So do you play with it on?
I've tried, I've tried to play with it on.
This one, the Dark Side of the Moon,
it is pretty light, so I mean I'm not really used to,
I grew up not playing with anything on my wrists,
but you know this is a light watch
so if people wanted to play with it they definitely could.
So, to Sergio.
The Olympics are coming up,
and you know for the Olympics,
if you win you get a gold medal.
For golf, you get a trophy and lots of money.
Would you rather play for lots of money and a trophy,
or a gold medal?
Well I mean we play for trophies every week so I think
for me, as an athlete,
and as very much follower of the Olympics,
to have the possibility of winning a medal,
it's something that I never really thought about it
growing up because golf didn't look like
it was gonna be in the Olympics.
It's exciting to have the possibility
of winning a gold medal.
And not only that, but to have
the possibility of being there
and watching the Olympics there live,
and seeing some of the other athletes
is just gonna be an amazing experience.
So this is a question for both of you.
Do you have like, a crazy golfing moment?
Like for me it was a couple years ago.
I'd snapped it into the woods.
Took a five rescue, hit it on the green,
don't see where it goes.
So we look for the ball for about 1/2 an hour,
everywhere except the hole.
And just as an afterthought we look in the hole
and the ball is there, and pretty excited.
So do you guys have like a crazy golfing moment?
I've probably got too many to recall.
This game is crazy at times,
and stuff like that happens.
I think for me, I remember being behind a tree
in Hong Kong and pulling off a pretty cool shot there.
Probably not quite as good as the one Sergio pulled off
at Medinah in '99 behind that tree,
but it's really cool when you're able to pull
shots off like that when you think you're in trouble,
and you're able to curve one around a tree
or do something special with the ball,
and get it close to the pin.
Yeah, I mean obviously like Rory said,
'99 was very special for me.
But if I had to pick one
I'd probably say my first hole in one.
I remember it was on my home course with a three wood.
I think I was 10, or something like that.
It was a long par three, and I remember
it was early in the morning.
So actually the light was between the shadows
and the sun I couldn't really see that well,
but I remember with the dew on the ground
I could see a line going towards the hole,
and I knew I hit a good shot
so I was really excited when I saw that.
And then obviously when I saw the ball in the hole it was,
you know, I was jumping up and down.
Thank you very much.
That was the amazing interview
with Mr. Rory and Mr. Sergio.
