The Challenge: Part 6
They didn't all break 100, but they all met the challenge. Watch the Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge with Michael Jordan, Justin Timberlake, Ben Roethlisberger and contest winner Larry Gibelhausen as they try to break 100 at Bethpage Black.
Released on 7/9/2009
[Announcer #1] Roethlisberger faced with 232 yards
with a second to the monstrous tenth.
[Announcer #2] Big man creates a lot of club head speed.
What a shot!
Gosh, he's hit some good shots!
[Announcer #1] This one settles pin high
for Roethlisberger, he'll have a birdie attempt.
Now Giebelhausen, with his third from 160.
[Announcer #2] And yes, that is his shadow,
our first view of sunshine today!
[Announcer #1] Weather has improved after early rain
on the front nine.
And Giebelhausen with a dart in there!
[Announcer #2] Best shot he's hit today!
[Announcer #1] And you can see how receptive the greens
are after the morning moisture.
So the condition's pretty good right now for the players.
For par now is M.J.
[Announcer #2] This really is the strength of his game,
always a good putter.
[Announcer #1] Talk about that! There you go.
[Announcer #2] He's getting it turned around here.
[Announcer #1] I would say so.
+2 in the last four holes after the tough start.
[Man] Nice putting, Mike! Knock 'em in, kiddo.
[Other Man] You got 'em? You know what it's gonna do,
it's gonna move, it's coming my way.
[Announcer #1] What a birdie this would be.
[Announcer #2] This would get like, make an eagle.
This is almost like a par five.
[Other Man] Love the speed.
[Man] Oh yeah. That was a three on that hole?
This is like a par twelve.
You did three on us, nicely done, sir.
[Announcer #1] Rocca knows how good that three was.
That was incredible.
For par now, Giebelhausen.
And what a four for him!
[Announcer #2] You needed to make a par,
he needs to make some more, really!
[Announcer #1] So everybody played it well,
except for Timberlake, who picked up a triple,
and falls to +10, but the foursome planned a
difficult tenth, aggregate score of +2.
Now on to the 504 yd par 4 twelfth.
Another monster hole here.
Jordan has got himself in pretty good shape here,
laying up here with his second, his third now.
[Announcer #2] This now just a short wedge from 75 yards.
[Announcer #1] And with the way Jordan has been playing,
in his sights, not just breaking 100, breaking 90
is in clear view for him.
[Announcer #2] Absolutely, he played a beauty at number...
[Screams in Surprise]
That's even better than the one he played at nine,
that one hit the flag stick!
[Announcer #1] So that's going to be another par for
Jordan, at a long par 4.
[Jordan] I'd take that.
[Announcer #1] You bet he will.
Backing this one up, Rodger.
And this, I mean, it's remarkable it didn't go down.
[Announcer #2] Just about a duplicate of the shot
he played at nine.
Six holes left. My man's playing the game.
This would be a great par, or it's going to be a great par.
He's doing it, we got a big bet with Tiger.
I'm not telling anyone what we got, but he's gotta
play hard to get it.
[Announcer #1] Well that magic number for Jordan as far as
Tiger is concerned is 92, he's at +14 right now,
so he's got 8 shafts to play with.
