[Dan] Well, if anybody can put you at ease,
it's Rocco Mediate talking his man
through this tough, long par three.
[Roger] The green runs on a diagonal
from right to left and a steep fall off
behind the green.
[Rocco] Oh baby, draw a little more.
[Dan] And, what a beauty by Roethlisberger.
He knew he it it well,
I'm not so sure that
that you could see it, yeah. that you could see it.
[Roger] It was a great shot.
[Dan] So, MJ is next,
and again, he's trying to calm down
after a tough couple of holes to start off.
Plus five with a five-wood here.
[Roger] He'd love to follow that shot,
and you're right,
a good shot here would help him settle down.
[Fred] Get way up in there.
[Dan] And, Jordan's problems continue.
He's found the bunker on the left.
Let's go down to Mark Rolfing.
Fred, are you surprised at the start your player's made?
Yeah, but it's not the end of the world,
you know, we've got a lot of holes.
If he can just make a few pars, that's all we talked about,
then the game will be easy.
But, yeah, seven, six is not what we were looking for
as my caddy Joe would say.
[Mark] As a caddy, is there anything you can do
to pump him up now?
We're gonna find out pretty quickly
because I'm gonna do my best to try.
I don't know what he wants to hear, but,
maybe we'll start talking the old Bull days,
and see, Scottie Pippen and the boys,
see if we can get him pumped up.
But, he's a great man, he couldn't,
he's not worried about being five over after two.
[Dan] And last year, it was Couples who asked MJ
if he'd be a captain's assistant
for the upcoming President's Cup matches,
And so, Jordan said, how about caddying
for me in this challenge?
And so, that kind of how the duo hooked up.
But, this third hole has been a disaster for Giebelhausen.
After leaving two in the bunker here,
that was a fluffed shot,
and Giebelhausen goes on to make an eight
on this par three.
Roethlisberger, in the meantime,
has another good look at birdie.
[Roger] Putt might move just a little right.
Pretty good looking stroke, just a little more speed
he'd a had it.
[Dan] But Roethlisberger having the kind of start
that many US Open players would like
to have on this course.
Plus one for Roethlisberger,
Timberlake made a double on this third,
and Jordan made a bogey.
But, this is the kind of thing
that can happen on a US Open course,
as we check out the action at the par five fourth.
Jordan hits it in the first cut,
but you can't really get too much out of that.
[Roger] Bit of a squib there.
[Dan] Ben Roethlisberger hit his tee shot well left,
took an unplayable,
and then, so you're feeling like you've gotta kinda
make somethin' happen here.
[Roger] And, he tries to force the ball
onto the upper level of the fairway
and catches the cross-bunker.
Really, kind of questionable course management there,
[Dan] And Giebelhausen flew his fourth shot
over the green at this par five,
so he's dealing with the thick fescue.
[Roger] Tries to hack it up the hill
and comes up short.
[Dan] The only guy with a chance for par was Timberlake,
but, again, you've got to hole 'em all out
and Timberlake misses the short par putt.
[Roger] Get a lot of those in a US Open.
Can't miss the little ones.
[Dan] But, Timberlake's bogey is the best score
at the fourth, as everyone struggles at the par five.
They all went on to bogey the fifth.
And, that gets up to the par four sixth,
where Justin Timberlake and his caddie Anthony Kim
are getting ready for their second.
[Anthony] You're hitting a solid 110 club.
Alright, I kind like cutting this in there.
[Anthony] What's that go?
[Justin] It'll go 121.
Okay, if you like that, let's hit that.
[Justin] Okay, I just feel like, with the lie.
With the slope.
It's gonna go a little bit farther
because you're on a downhill slope.
[Roger] One of the changes to Bethpage since 2002
is this area of the golf course being returned to fairway.
That was all rough in '02.
The fairway stopped further up on top.
So, kind of a difficult lie,
but he gets that ball to spin back off that downhill lie.
Great shot there.
[Dan] How about that, forget about the old high five.
Timberlake and AK have updated it.
[Roger] Instead, it's the new way to do it.
[Dan] Jordan's fourth now at this par four.
[Roger] Another bunker
and that sounded good.
[Fred] Oh yeah.
Great shot, had a lot of kack on it.
[Dan] Jordan, though, is still looking for his first par
of the day.
And here is the club face way opened here
for Roethlisberger and his third.
[Roger] This is the stuff that you get in a US Open
that you don't get it at home.
[Roethlisberger] That's all I wanted to do.
[Rocco] That's what you wanted, I know.
[Roethlisberger] That's all I wanted.
That's all I could do.
[Dan] But, again, as you can hear,
Roethlisberger happy with the result there.
So, now with his fourth, just trying to make a five here.
[Roger] Pretty good shot out of that bunker
down the slope.
[Dan] Roethlisberger has not played a lot of golf.
In fact, of this group here,
maybe has played the least amount of golf.
Timberlake now for birdie from short range.
[Roger] A little downhiller here.
Oh, just leaks away right
[Dan] So, Timberlake with a par,
everyone else bogeys,
as these celebrities continue to grab some great advice
from PGA Tour stars in a much different role.
